Cyclops

I am pleased to announce a new iPhone application on the App Store: Cyclops!

It’s a free barcode scanner for your iPhone 3Gs.  Cyclops will scan barcodes and look them up for you online, showing you item information, pricing, etc.  It’s quick, easy, and free.

Please check it out, I hope you find it useful.

Thought this would be a great app – have the new 3Gs phone – but after 20 minutes of trying to scan books, PS3 games, magazines I just gave up. Not one barcode was scanned. No error messages either, so I have no idea why it didn’t work – and everything was shot in portrait mode too. Frustrating…..

Currently the online search is broken – I have submitted an update 1.0.1 to fix this, and I am waiting for Apple to approve the update. So Cyclops should be scanning barcodes as normal (i.e. you should get a new entry with a code), but the information about the item will be blank. If that’s what is happening for you, please be patient until the update is approved, and everything should be fine. If you need further assistance, send me a support email and I’ll do my best to help.

Ok, version 1.0.1 is now ready which fixes the searching problems, so please update.

I still dont’ get an entry with a code for most things, and the search is not working – I just scanned a bag of Fritos and while the barcode scanned, nothing came back from the search.
